Week 3 - Birth of the computer

In this weeks lecture, we learned about Charles Babbage, who designed the Difference Engine, which was capable of calculating and printing mathematical tables. He also designed the Analytical Engine: a massive, brass, steam powered, general purpose computer. The birth of the computer was next, which started with early computers that took up the space of an entire room In the 1970s, the first personal computer (PC) was released and was named 'zero'. Also in the 1970s a man named Bill Gates ounded what is the largest software company in the world: Microsoft. In the 1980s, the graphical user interface or GUI was starting to be used on some computers. However it wasn't until the mid 1990s when Microsoft released it's operating system known as Windows that all computers were using a GUI

We also viewed the second half of Alphaville. which was produced in France in the 1960s
